Nim Chimpsky: The chimp who would be human
By Debra Durham • Feb 19th, 2008 • Category: Non-fiction
Author Elizabeth Hess provides an intimate portrait of the life of an individual chimpanzee, Nim Chimpsky. Hess chronicles his life from the time he was a diaper-clad ‘baby” in a cross-fostering experiment with a human family to the struggles of being passed from one “owner” to another and his plight later in life.
Hess explores the ethical implications of Nim’s life and death and what Nim’s legacy means for humanness and chimpanzeeness alike. The reviews are great, and I’m looking forward to the arrival of my pre-ordered copy!
